The statement, published on the official website of the UN Libyan Mission, said that around 400,000 refugees live in the country, among which 36,000 children are in urgent need of assistance.

It is noted that more than 14,000 children who are not informed about what they are coming from are living away from their families and relatives, and the figures are based on data from the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

So far this year, nearly 15,000 unaccompanied children have reached Italy after crossing the Mediterranean, they said. But 400 died trying to make the treacherous journey, and many more were abused, exploited and detained.

A large number of African immigrants seeking to reach Europe because of conflicts and security problems in their countries are using the Libyan route.

On the other hand, the European Police Organization Europol said that over 10 thousand migrant children have disappeared in the last 2 years, after coming to European Union (EU) countries.

Europol's intelligence unit says thousands of children disappeared without a trace since they have been registered in an EU country. The unit warns that those children might be forced into prostitution and slavery by gangs and kidnapped my organ mafias. (ILKHA)
