Accompanied by her son Bilal Erdoğan, Minister of Family and Social Policies Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya, AK Party Deputy Chairwoman for Human Rights Ravza Kavakcı, President of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) Serdar Çam, President of the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Mehmet Güllüoğlu, Director General of the Turkish Red Crescent (Kızılay) İbrahim Altan, President of the Turkish Youth and Education Service Foundation (TÜRGEV) Arzu Akalın and President of the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) Sare Aydın, the First Lady was welcomed by officials with flowers in the Cox’s Bazar district of Bangladesh, the closest city to the camps that house Rohingya Muslims.

“It is unbelievable that such a barbarity is taking place before the eyes of the whole world”

“It is unbelievable that such a barbarity is taking place before the eyes of the world in this age,” First Lady Erdoğan said, and noted: “Criminals, if there is any, should be punished but innocent people cannot be treated this way.”

Calling on the international community, the First Lady said: “We all have children. We can’t ignore the situation here just because they are not our children. We all bear responsibility. That’s why we are here. We are here to announce this to the world. We are here to help. Please, everyone, do the best you can.” First Lady Erdoğan added that she would also bring this issue to the United Nations as well.

Afterward, the First Lady started the distribution of relief materials supplied by Kızılay and AFAD. Listening to the problems and sufferings of asylum seekers at the camp, First Lady Erdoğan posed for a photo with children. (ILKHA)
