Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu explained that the person who killed the Ankara Ambassador Andrey Karlov by armed attack was Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, who was in charge of the Ankara Riot Force Branch Directorate.

Minister Soylu, "Attacker was born in Aydın Söke, on June 24, 1994. Registered in Şehzadeler population in Manisa. He graduated from Söke Cumhuriyet Anatolian High School. Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, who graduated from İzmir Rüştü Ünsal Police Vocational School and currently works at the Ankara Riot Force Branch Directorate and has been in this position for two and a half years.”

Minister Soylu said that the Ankara Ambassador Andrey Karlov was attacked with armed on a photo exhibition entitled "Russia from Kaliningrad to Kamchatka" in the Çankaya Municipality Contemporary Arts Center and stated that "despite the fact that there was no vital findings at 19:53 in the Güven Hospital, the response to the reconstruction was not answered and our precious friend, Mr. Ambassador lost his life."
