Prime Minister Binali Yildirim spoke to the press in relation to the suicide attack at Istanbul Ataturk Airport in his arrival to the airport. Prime Minister Yildirim confirms that 36 people were killed and said “Our security forces confirm that initial reports suggest DAESH was responsible for the attacks.”

He added that several people were also wounded and transferred to different hospitals for their initial treatments.

PM Binali Yildirim condemned the attack and extended condolences to the victims’ families and wished a speedy recovery for those wounded in the attack.

“It is significant that the attack carried out in such a period”

Yildirim continued his speech, “This attack shows that there is a global threat. With this incident we clearly see that in this attack the terrorists targeted innocent people. Our country has been fighting terrorism and has been very successful in this fight. In this period when we are trying to normalise relations with our neighbours, such a terror attack is very significant. It is a threat to our citizens’ peace and security. It is clear that this attack is a threat to all humanity and it is a global incident. We should on a global scale carry out a mutual cooperation to fight against terrorism."

He added that the attack was committed by 3 suicide attackers and 36 people have lost their lives.

“The evidence points to DAESH”

Yildirim continued and further said, “Our security forces findings indicate that this terror attack was committed by DAESH but we are still working on investigating those behind the attack. We will be releasing all the details as soon as they are revealed.”

He concluded his speech by stating “The fact that the suicide attackers had guns increased the gravity of the incident. One terrorist may have escaped but we are still researching the details about this. Evidence suggest that three suicide attackers blew themselves up after firing.” (ILKHA)
