April Fools' Day has no place in our culture

We took opinion of Diyarbakır people about April Fools’ Day that we have no any information how it entered our culture. Most of the people of Diyarbakır said they have no any knowledge of such a day while some others said they find this day which doesn’t belong to our culture completely nonsense and added that lying for the sake of making someone laugh is an improper behavior.

Saying that playing practical jokes and spreading hoaxes come to my mind when April Fools’ Day is mentioned, Abdurahman Akar said: “In general, people make exaggerated jokes each other. And this isn’t something good because Islam doesn’t deem lying an allowable behavior. Once I also played this kind of jokes but now I am regretful of these things.”

Indicating that having no any idea when this has entered our culture, Serhat Çetin said I think this kind of jokes mustn’t be between friends.

Stressing that people mustn’t lie when they play a joke, Abdullah Alptekin reminded that Muhammad (PBUH) also played jokes but He never mixed lies into His jokes.

Saying that making dirty prank is something shameful, Arzu Çağlar said: “When April Fools’ Day is spoken of, pranking comes to my mind. Our prophet preached us that we mustn’t tell lie unconditionally. He never told lie, that’s why He was a very reliable person.

Indicating that people mustn’t lie even if it was for a joke, Suat Deniz said telling lie is something very wrong.

Saying that April Fools’ Day makes no sense for him, Cihan Bayram said he isn’t a man likes playing jokes.

Abdurrahman Ekin said that: “On this day people especially students play jokes each other. I don’t know where this has come to our culture.” (ILKHA)
