The operation, conducted by the Chief Prosecutor's Office in Ankara, targeted individuals suspected of providing financial support to FETÖ members, including those imprisoned for their involvement in the 2016 coup attempt.

Investigations revealed that the suspects used couriers to deliver funds to imprisoned FETÖ members and their families. Among the detainees were individuals previously expelled from public service due to suspected ties to the group.

FETÖ, led by the U.S.-based figure Fetullah Gülen, orchestrated a failed coup attempt in July 2016, resulting in the deaths of 251 people and injuring thousands more.

Despite Gülen's death in October 2024, authorities continue to dismantle the group's extensive network within Turkish society. Investigations have uncovered deep-rooted infiltration within various sectors, including the judiciary, law enforcement, and the bureaucracy.

The 2016 coup attempt, along with previous attempts in 2013, highlighted the significant threat posed by FETÖ to Turkish national security. (ILKHA)
