Space junk crashes in Kenyan village
Kenyan space agency experts are investigating a 500kg metal ring that crashed in Mukuku village, 50km southeast of the capital Nairobi.
The agency has identified the object as a "separation ring from a launch vehicle (rocket)". These rings are typically designed to burn up during re-entry into the Earth's atmosphere or to fall into uninhabited areas such as oceans.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
This incident highlights the growing concern about the increasing amount of space debris orbiting the Earth. (ILKHA)
