Israeli captive rescued after suicide attempt in Gaza
An Israeli captive held by Saraya al-Quds, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, attempted suicide approximately three days ago, according to spokesperson Abu Hamza.
The captive's deteriorating mental health, reportedly exacerbated by new conditions imposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, led to the suicide attempt.
Abu Hamza stated that the group's medical team intervened promptly, preventing the captive's death. The individual was initially slated for release in the first phase of a prisoner swap deal with Israel. In light of this incident, Saraya al-Quds has implemented stricter security and safety measures for all Israeli captives under their control.
This development occurs amid ongoing protests by families of Israeli captives across various regions, criticizing the Israeli leadership's handling of prisoner swap negotiations. Hamas has accused Israel of introducing new conditions related to withdrawal, ceasefire, captives, and the return of displaced persons, causing delays in reaching a previously attainable agreement.
