Gharibabadi, speaking to reporters in Tehran, emphasized that these talks are not considered negotiations but rather a platform for clarifying issues of mutual concern and exploring potential avenues for future dialogue.  

This upcoming meeting follows a previous round of talks held in Geneva in late November, where senior diplomats from both sides exchanged views on various issues, including Iran's nuclear program and the lifting of sanctions.  

Despite several rounds of negotiations since 2021, a significant breakthrough in reviving the JCPOA has yet to be achieved.The 2015 nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was originally signed between Iran and six major powers, including the E3. The United States withdrew from the agreement in 2018, leading to the reimposition of sanctions on Iran and prompting Tehran to scale back its commitments under the deal. Efforts to revive the agreement have faced challenges, with no significant breakthroughs achieved in recent rounds of talks.

The upcoming talks in Geneva are viewed as a critical opportunity to address ongoing concerns and explore pathways toward de-escalation and the potential revival of the nuclear agreement.
