United States: Two men fatally shot by police during traffic stops in Alabama
In two separate incidents over the past two days in Alabama, police officers shot and killed two men during traffic stops, according to statements from local law enforcement agencies.
On Monday, in northern Alabama, 41-year-old Drew Patterson Banks was killed by local police after they attempted to stop him for driving a stolen vehicle. Following a chase involving multiple highways, Banks reportedly exited his vehicle holding what appeared to be a handgun. Officers opened fire, and Banks was pronounced dead at the scene. Subsequent investigation revealed that the object he was holding was actually a realistic-looking replica firearm, as reported by the Associated Press.
The second incident occurred on Sunday evening in southwestern Alabama, involving 24-year-old Logan Tyler Swanson. During a traffic stop, Swanson allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with two officers from the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office. According to the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit, Swanson drew a gun during the confrontation, leading to the officers firing their weapons. He, too, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Both cases are under investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Baldwin County Major Crimes Unit respectively, to further examine the circumstances of these deadly encounters. (ILKHA)
