Afghanistan launches polio vaccination drive targeting 4.8 million children
A nationwide polio vaccination campaign began on Monday across 11 provinces of Afghanistan, aiming to immunize 4.8 million children under the age of five.
The campaign, led by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), will run from December 23 to 25.
The targeted provinces include Kabul, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan, Zabul, Nangarhar, Kunar, Laghman, Nuristan, Herat, and Kunduz.
At the launch ceremony, Public Health Minister Maulvi Noor Jalal Jalali reaffirmed the ministry's dedication to eradicating polio in Afghanistan. “We are committed to ensuring that no child is left vulnerable to this preventable disease,” he stated.
This follows a similar three-day campaign conducted in 10 provinces from November 25 to 27, reflecting ongoing efforts to combat the poliovirus and improve public health across the country. (ILKHA)
