President Erdoğan to visit Egypt for D-8 summit
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is scheduled to visit Cairo, Egypt, on December 19, 2024, to participate in the 11th Summit of the Developing Eight Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8).
During the summit, President Erdoğan will deliver a speech focusing on the theme "Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping the Economy of Tomorrow." He is also expected to engage in discussions addressing regional issues, particularly the situations in Palestine and Syria.
The D-8 summit serves as a platform for member countries—Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey—to collaborate on economic development and other shared interests. President Erdoğan's attendance underscores Turkey's commitment to strengthening economic and political ties within the organization.
This visit also marks a significant step in the recent rapprochement between Turkey and Egypt, following years of strained relations. High-level engagements, including this summit, indicate a mutual interest in enhancing cooperation on regional and global matters.
In addition to President Erdoğan, other notable leaders, such as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, are expected to attend the summit, further highlighting the event's importance in fostering regional dialogue and cooperation. (ILKHA)
