Fire brigade crews successfully rescued and relocated five individuals at risk due to the downpour. Additionally, they conducted eight water pumping operations to remove floodwater from ground floors and basements inundated by torrents and excessive water accumulation.

Deputy Regional Governor of Etoloakarnania, Thanasis Mavrommatis, stated that the situation was under control despite the challenges posed by the storm.

“Machinery is working continuously at torrents to clear debris from the heavy rainfall, as well as on numerous road sections to remove soil deposits and debris,” Mavrommatis said.

The heavy rain caused landslides and damaged road infrastructure in various parts of the Etoloakarnania region. Affected routes include stretches from Agrinio to Prousos, Aggelokastro to Klisorevmata, and Kallithea to Labiri. Major water build-up was also reported in Megali Hora, Neapoli, and Agios Konstantinos.

In neighboring Achaia, parts of the road network were impacted by flooding, falling debris, and frost, according to police reports.

This weather event follows a deadly storm that struck the island of Lemnos just over two weeks ago, claiming two lives before moving south to cause extensive damage on Rhodes.

Authorities in western Greece continue to monitor the situation and implement measures to address the damage caused by the heavy rainfall. (ILKHA)
