Erdogan discusses Syrian developments with EU Commission President
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to discuss the latest developments in Syria, according to a statement from the Turkish presidency.
During the call, President Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Syrian people in the coming period. He outlined key priorities, including eliminating terrorist elements from Syrian territory, preserving the country’s unity and territorial integrity, and ensuring peace for all Syrians across ethnic and religious lines.
President Erdogan also highlighted Türkiye’s plans for the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Syrian refugees to their homeland. He noted that efforts to reconstruct Syria would be accelerated to facilitate these returns, contributing to long-term stability in the region.
