In this expenditure, financial and non-financial corporations played a major role, contributing 66.8% of the total. The general government and non-profit institutions serving households followed, accounting for 28.1%, while households themselves added 5.1% to the overall spending.

Waste management emerged as the predominant focus, making up 63.3% of the total environmental protection expenditure. Wastewater management followed, representing 14.7%, with biodiversity and landscape protection at 8.3%. Efforts towards protecting and remediating soil, groundwater, and surface water accounted for 5.4%, and the protection of ambient air and climate was at 2.7%. Other environmental protection domains contributed the remaining 5.6%.

The investment in environmental protection was also notable, amounting to 38.2 billion TL, though this represented a 14.9% decrease from the previous year. Financial and non-financial corporations were responsible for 77.5% of this investment, while the general government and non-profit institutions accounted for 22.5%.

Despite the substantial investments, the share of environmental protection expenditure in the country's gross domestic product (GDP) saw a slight decline, falling from 0.95% in 2022 to 0.85% in 2023.
