Humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens as famine looms, warns WFP
The humanitarian response in Gaza is on the brink of collapse, with the threat of famine drawing closer, warned Antoine Renard, the World Food Programme (WFP) representative for Palestine, on Wednesday.
“For 50 days, barely any food has reached North Gaza,” Renard stated, highlighting the dire situation faced by displaced families as winter approaches. He added, “With winter coming, families facing hunger and displacement are becoming increasingly vulnerable.”
Renard emphasized the urgent need for safe and sustained access to deliver aid to those in need. The WFP and other humanitarian organizations have been struggling to provide assistance amid ongoing conflict and restricted access to the region.
The WFP’s warning comes as international aid agencies and governments continue to call for an end to hostilities and the opening of humanitarian corridors to prevent further deterioration of living conditions in Gaza. (ILKHA)
