Meanwhile, in Malaysia, nearly 139,000 people have been displaced, and at least seven deaths have been reported. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ordered his cabinet to remain on duty and respond to the crisis.

The frequent and severe flooding in the region is attributed to climate change and the increasing intensity of monsoon rains. Experts warn that such extreme weather events will become more common in the future.
