Cyclone Fengal devastates India and Sri Lanka, causing flooding and fatalities

In India, the storm caused severe flooding in Tamil Nadu state and the Puducherry region, with Puducherry experiencing its heaviest 24-hour rainfall in 30 years, according to India's weather office. The southern city of Chennai was also heavily impacted, with parts of the city left inundated. Flights from Chennai were temporarily suspended on Saturday but resumed early Sunday morning, as reported by India's airport authority.

Local media visuals depicted gusty winds and heavy rainfall, with submerged roads and boats being utilized for rescue operations. The Indian army has been actively conducting relief efforts in Puducherry, targeting areas most affected by the storm, while rainfall has begun to ease in Chennai.

In Sri Lanka, the cyclone resulted in the deaths of 16 people, with heavy rains affecting a total of 138,944 families, according to the latest data from the Disaster Management Centre in Colombo.
