Abbas calls for UN to enforce Security Council resolution on Gaza
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, on Wednesday at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.
During the meeting, President Abbas updated the UN envoy on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories. He highlighted the efforts of the Palestinian leadership to halt the all-out genocidal Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.
President Abbas emphasized the need for the United Nations to fulfill its responsibilities by implementing UN Security Council Resolution No. 2735. This resolution calls for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the acceleration of aid entry into the Strip, the complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the empowerment of the State of Palestine to assume full responsibilities in Gaza, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.
Additionally, President Abbas stressed the importance of stopping the implementation of the Israeli occupation authorities' decision to ban the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in the occupied territories. He warned of the serious political, legal, and humanitarian ramifications of this decision. (ILKHA)
