Shin Won-sik, the head of South Korea's National Security Office, stated in an interview on the 24th that preparations for the launch are in the final stages, and while there are no immediate signs of a threat, he believes a launch is highly likely before the end of the year. North Korea had previously announced plans to launch reconnaissance satellites three times in 2023, but no launch has occurred since May. Shin suggested that delays were due to efforts to improve and integrate North Korea’s propulsion system with the new launch system.

Meanwhile, concerns over North Korea’s nuclear ambitions are also rising. The U.S. government believes that North Korea is preparing for a seventh nuclear test, with U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control, Alexandra Bell, stating on the 22nd that North Korea is only waiting for a political decision to move forward with the test.

The developments highlight escalating tensions in the region, with North Korea's satellite launch and nuclear test preparations drawing international scrutiny. (ILKHA)
