India: 10 dead in clash between security forces and Kuki insurgents in Manipur
At least 10 suspected Kuki insurgents were killed in a fierce encounter with security forces in Manipur's Jiribam district on Monday.
The clash erupted after the insurgents launched a coordinated attack on a police station and a nearby relief camp.
A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldier was injured during the exchange of fire and has been evacuated for medical treatment.
The Kuki insurgents, armed with RPGs and AK-47s, targeted the police station and a nearby settlement, setting houses on fire. Security forces have responded to the attack by sending reinforcements to the area.
Kuki civil society groups have called for a shutdown in Kuki-dominated areas to protest the deaths of their members, whom they refer to as "village volunteers." The ongoing conflict between the Kuki and Meitei communities in Manipur has led to widespread violence and displacement. (ILKHA)
