WHO warns of imminent famine in northern Gaza
The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a stark warning on Saturday, cautioning that a famine is imminent in northern Gaza as humanitarian conditions deteriorate.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus described the situation as "deeply alarming" and cited new data from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) indicating an escalating food crisis.
“There is a strong likelihood that famine is imminent in areas within the northern Gaza Strip,” Tedros wrote on X, calling for a “scale-up and safe access for humanitarian aid — primarily food and medicines for severe malnutrition — within days, not weeks.”
The WHO has underscored the urgent need for humanitarian access to prevent famine and mitigate the critical shortages affecting Gaza’s population. (ILKHA)
