Tehran on US election: Iran to judge Washington by actions, not leaders
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, commented on the recent US presidential election, asserting that it is primarily an American domestic issue.
Addressing questions from IRNA, Baghaei stated: “It is for the American people to elect their president, and they have now made their choice.” His remarks follow the re-election of Donald Trump as US President on November 5, a position he previously held from 2017 to 2021.
Baghaei emphasized that what holds significance for Iran is not the individual elected but rather Washington’s policies and behavior. “Our people have very bitter experiences from past consecutive American administrations,” he noted, underscoring a history of strained US-Iran relations.
He also pointed out that each election offers an opportunity for the US to reassess and adjust what Iran views as "unjust and ill-suited approaches." Baghaei concluded, “What matters for us is the US’s deeds.”
The comments reflect Iran’s cautious approach to the US election results, with Iranian officials closely watching for any policy shifts from Washington. (ILKHA)
