Türkiye's hazelnut exports surge in 2024, generating over $2 billion
Türkiye’s hazelnut industry saw a remarkable performance in the first ten months of 2024, with trade in hazelnuts and related products reaching 254,000 tons and generating $2.06 billion in foreign currency, according to the Eastern Black Sea Exporters Association.
In the January-October period, Türkiye’s hazelnut exports totaled 139,000 tons, a 20% increase over the previous year, yielding $1.14 billion—a significant 57% increase in revenue.
Processed hazelnut products also performed well, with an output of 916 million units, marking a 7% rise in quantity and a 34% rise in revenue.
From September 1 to October 31, 2024, Türkiye's shelled hazelnut exports surged by 653% compared to the same period last year, reaching 566 tons. This increase in quantity was matched by a 736% rise in revenue, generating 2.16 million lira. Cumulatively, from January to October 2024, shelled hazelnut exports rose by 179% in quantity and 241% in revenue, totaling $3.08 million.
The recent rise in global demand has driven up the unit price of hazelnuts by 46% in value, even with a 14% increase in hazelnut production. Industry experts are optimistic that the trend will continue as international interest in Turkish hazelnuts remains robust. (ILKHA)
