Turkish coast guard rescues 19 migrants off Aegean coast
The Turkish Coast Guard rescued 19 irregular migrants, including two children, from a fibre boat off the coast of Bozcaada in Çanakkale.
The operation, conducted by Coast Guard Command teams, resulted in the migrants being safely brought ashore.
Following the rescue, the migrants were transported to the Ayvacık Removal Centre for further processing. Authorities also detained one individual suspected of migrant smuggling in connection with the incident.
The rescue and arrest underscore the continued efforts by Turkish authorities to address irregular migration and human smuggling along the country’s western coastlines. (ILKHA)
