Prophet's Lovers Foundation to commemorate ‘Month of the Companions’ with series of events
As part of its annual observance, the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation has announced November as "the Month of the Companions" with a series of events aimed at highlighting the exemplary lives of the Prophet Muhammad’s (Peace Be Upon Him) closest followers, or Companions.
This year’s events, which is held under the theme "Stars Enlightening Our Path," will focus on exploring the lives of these early Muslim figures whose dedication to justice and unity continues to serve as a source of inspiration in today’s world.
Mullah Beşir Şimşek, President of the Prophet’s Lovers Foundation, emphasized the urgent need for new generations to embody the virtues displayed by the Companions, particularly as humanity faces increasingly turbulent times. He described the Companions as “monuments of faith” whose commitment to the message of Islam helped ignite an unprecedented societal transformation. Within 23 years, under the Prophet’s guidance, the Companions purified their homeland, challenged oppressive empires, and conveyed a message of peace and unity that continues to resonate worldwide. Şimşek highlighted that this period represented an unparalleled movement in history, describing the Companions as "builders of the earth" who were uniquely tasked with spreading justice, freedom, and the concept of tawhid (oneness of God) across civilizations.
This year’s "Month of the Companions" celebrations will pay special tribute to Said bin Zayd, one of the ten Companions promised paradise, and Umm Kulthum, wife of Hazrat Uthman. Both figures hold a revered place in Islamic history for their unwavering commitment to the Prophet’s mission despite hardship. Said bin Zayd, who embraced Islam at a young age, faced persecution but remained steadfast, while Umm Kulthum symbolized strength and piety during an era of immense challenges.
Şimşek spoke passionately about the relevance of the Companions' lives in modern times, emphasizing that “in this dark and oppressive age, the need for generations who are armed with the example of the Companions and dedicated to the revival and reconstruction of the world is more than ever.” He underscored that the Companions provide an ideal blueprint for building an Islamic society rooted in ethical conduct and devotion, recalling the Quranic verse: “You are the best ummah that has been created for mankind. You enjoin good, forbid evil and believe in Allah.”
Highlighting the contemporary context, Şimşek underscored the importance of understanding the "pure lives" of the Companions, especially as external influences and global powers seek to erode the moral foundations of Islamic communities. He noted that learning about and following the examples set by the Companions serves as a means of protection against modern-day challenges and societal traps.
In his closing remarks, Şimşek expressed the Foundation’s belief in the role of the Companions as "a prescription for salvation from this dark age." He emphasized that a return to the Companions' values could offer guidance to the entire Islamic world, especially to those currently suffering in regions like Gaza and Lebanon.
Through lectures, discussions, and community gatherings, the Foundation hopes to rekindle appreciation for the Companions’ values and offer a reminder of the enduring impact of their legacy. The Prophet’s Lovers Foundation extends a heartfelt invitation to all who wish to attend and reflect on the Companions’ lives, expressing hope that these events will be “instrumental in good deeds” and provide meaningful insights into both historical and contemporary faith-led resilience.
