Israeli opposition leader Lapid warns of rising military casualties in Gaza, Lebanon
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has issued a stark warning about the rising number of military casualties amid Israel's aggressions in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, calling for a reassessment of current strategies.
Speaking in an interview with Channel 12 on Monday, Lapid claimed that since October 7, 2023, “11,000 soldiers were injured, and 890 others killed.”
The figures he presented exceed official military reports, which list 772 soldiers killed and approximately 5,100 injured. Lapid emphasized that his statistics were accurate, accusing the government of concealing the true scale of losses. “There are limits to how much we accept the alternative facts,” he said, underscoring the urgent need for a response from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government.
Israeli genocidal aggression on Gaza, which reignited last year, has seen severe civilian impacts; more than 43,000 people have been killed, including large numbers of women and children, and over 101,000 have been injured, according to health officials in Gaza. Calls for an immediate cease-fire, including a UN Security Council resolution, remain unheeded by Israel, which continues military operations despite mediation efforts by the U.S., Egypt, and Qatar.
Israel has also expanded its operations into Lebanon, escalating from a year of cross-border hostilities into a broader military campaign, with a ground offensive launched on October 1. Lapid urged the government to act quickly to prevent further casualties and emphasized that a continued escalation could have even more severe consequences. (ILKHA)
