Türkiye records over 212,000 road motor vehicle registrations in September

Motorcycles made up the largest portion of registrations at 56.8%, followed by cars (29.5%), small trucks (7.9%), tractors (2.9%), trucks (1.6%), minibuses (0.9%), buses (0.3%), and special purpose vehicles (0.1%).

The number of registrations increased by 0.5% compared to August 2024. Notably, registrations for minibuses saw a significant rise of 28.4%, along with increases of 5.2% for tractors and 4.3% for motorcycles. However, there were decreases of 52.4% for special purpose vehicles, 17.1% for buses, 5.3% for cars, 4.8% for small trucks, and 1.7% for trucks.

Compared to September 2023, the number of road motor vehicle registrations increased by 6.9%. The year-on-year growth included a 54.2% rise in minibuses, 27.4% in motorcycles, and 16.6% in buses. Meanwhile, registrations dropped by 31.6% for special purpose vehicles, 15.9% for tractors, 14.9% for cars, 3.8% for trucks, and 3.7% for small trucks.

By the end of September 2024, the total number of road motor vehicles registered in Turkey reached 30.67 million. Cars made up 52% of the total, followed by motorcycles (19.6%), small trucks (15.2%), tractors (7.3%), trucks (3.2%), minibuses (1.7%), buses (0.7%), and special purpose vehicles (0.3%).

A total of 992,171 road motor vehicles changed ownership in September. Cars accounted for the majority of these transfers (66.4%), followed by small trucks (14.8%), motorcycles (11.5%), and tractors (2.8%).

In September, 62,677 new cars were registered. Among the most popular brands were Renault (12.0%), Fiat (8.9%), Volkswagen (6.6%), Toyota (5.5%), Hyundai (5.5%), and Opel (5.5%). Other notable brands included Mercedes-Benz, Peugeot, BMW, and Ford.

In the first nine months of 2024, a total of 1.96 million road motor vehicles were registered, marking a 13.8% increase compared to the same period in 2023. Meanwhile, 22,962 vehicles were withdrawn from traffic, resulting in a net increase of 1.93 million vehicles.

During January-September 2024, 63.1% of newly registered cars were gasoline-fueled, followed by hybrid (14.6%), diesel (12.4%), electric (8.8%), and LPG (1.1%) vehicles. The majority of these vehicles had engine sizes of 1300 cc or less (32.6%).

Of the 746,595 cars registered in 2024, 38.7% were grey, 25.8% were white, 13.0% were black, and 11.1% were blue. Other colors included red, green, orange, yellow, brown, and others.
