Iraq to finalize Hajj quota after November census
The Iraqi Hajj and Umrah Board has announced that the country's Hajj quota will be finalized following the national census scheduled for November.
Hassan Musawi, Director of the Board's Legal Office, stated that Iraq is in active communication with Saudi Arabia to determine the exact number of pilgrims allowed for the upcoming Hajj season.
Musawi emphasized that discussions with Saudi officials will take place after the census, which is planned for November 20, 2024. The Hajj quota is traditionally calculated based on each country's population, in line with international agreements.
"Iraq's Hajj quota is currently set at 33,000 pilgrims annually," Musawi said, adding that Saudi Arabia typically increases this number each year. The final determination of the quota will reflect Iraq's updated population data post-census. (ILKHA)
