Petho, whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the EU, was summoned in response to the EU's joint statement with the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and conclusions from last Thursday's EU leaders' summit. Iran condemned the repetition of what it described as “baseless claims” regarding its territorial rights over the islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, and Lesser Tunb.

Iran's director general for Western Europe at the Foreign Ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to international law, the United Nations Charter, and the principle of respect for territorial integrity and national sovereignty. He strongly criticized the EU’s support for what Tehran labeled as "illegal claims" against Iran’s territorial integrity.

Reiterating Iran's sovereignty over the trio of islands, the official denounced the EU's stance as "misguided, irresponsible, and legally invalid." He called for an immediate correction and urged the cessation of such claims.

The Hungarian ambassador assured that he would relay Iran's message to the relevant EU officials. (ILKHA)
