During the talks, Fidan met with Hamas Shura Council Chairman Mohammed Ismail Darwish and other key members of the political bureau. The discussions centered around recent developments in negotiations for a cease-fire agreement that would include provisions for the exchange of hostages and prisoners, a critical step in de-escalating the situation in Gaza.

Fidan reiterated Türkiye's dedication to mobilizing international efforts to address what he called a humanitarian “catastrophe” unfolding in Gaza, particularly in the northern region, which has been the hardest hit by the ongoing Israeli offensive.

The meeting also touched upon the broader issue of inter-Palestinian reconciliation, as efforts to bridge the divide between Hamas and Fatah continue. Fidan expressed his support for the ongoing reconciliation process and praised a recent summit hosted in Cairo, Egypt, aimed at fostering unity among Palestinian factions.

In a show of solidarity, Fidan conveyed his condolences to Hamas officials over the recent killing of Yahya Sinwar, a senior Hamas leader, by Israeli forces.

The meeting highlights Türkiye's active diplomatic role in seeking a resolution to the Gaza conflict and underscores its efforts to bring about a cease-fire and alleviate the humanitarian toll in the region. (ILKHA)
