Israeli airstrike on Gaza school kills 28, wounds dozens
At least 28 civilians were killed and dozens wounded on Thursday in a devastating Israeli airstrike on the Rufaidah School in Deir al-Balah, located in the central Gaza Strip.
The school, which was sheltering thousands of displaced people, mostly women and children, was hit by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in what is being described as a horrific massacre.
According to local sources, the bodies of more than 28 victims, many of them severely mutilated, were transported to Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah. In addition to those killed, more than 92 people were injured in the attack, with a significant number being children and women.
The Government Media Office (GMO) in Gaza condemned the airstrike, stating that the Israeli military was fully aware that the school housed thousands of displaced civilians who had fled their homes due to continuous bombardments. The attack reportedly took place during a peak time when families were gathered to receive their daily food rations.
This incident marks the latest in a series of bombings on shelters and displacement centers in Gaza. The Israeli military has now targeted 190 such sites, affecting hundreds of thousands of people already displaced by the ongoing conflict.
The GMO strongly condemned the massacre, calling on the international community and United Nations bodies to intervene and pressure Israeli authorities to halt what it described as genocidal actions in Gaza. The continued violence has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians, with the situation in the Gaza Strip worsening by the day. (ILKHA)
