As of Sunday, the number of confirmed fatalities has reached nearly 100 across North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.

The storm's powerful winds, torrential rain, and storm surge caused catastrophic flooding throughout the region, leaving millions without power and destroying roads, bridges, and homes. Search and rescue teams from across the country have been deployed to assist in recovery efforts, as many areas remain inaccessible due to the extensive damage.

Damage estimates range from $15 billion to over $100 billion, making Helene one of the costliest hurricanes in US history. Property damage, lost economic output, and the disruption of critical services will continue to be assessed in the coming weeks.

North Carolina has been hit particularly hard, with Buncombe County reporting the highest number of fatalities at 30. The county manager has requested emergency food and water supplies, as many areas remain isolated and without basic necessities.

In addition to the human toll, the storm has caused significant environmental damage. Coastal communities have suffered severe erosion and flooding, while inland areas have experienced widespread flooding and landslides.

The recovery process will be long and arduous, but officials and residents alike are determined to rebuild and recover from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. (ILKHA)
