Industrial sector dominates Turkish exports and imports

According to the report, large enterprises accounted for 43.4% of total exports and 55.5% of total imports in 2023. This underscores their significant contribution to Türkiye's external trade landscape.

The report also delves into the distribution of trade activities across different sectors and enterprise sizes. The industrial sector emerged as the leading sector in both exports and imports, with 56.0% of exports and 46.8% of imports being undertaken by industrial enterprises.

However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) played a crucial role in the trade sector, accounting for 88.8% of trade sector exports.

The report further reveals that Turkish enterprises primarily exported to the European Union (EU-27), with 46.7% of industrial exports and 32.9% of trade sector exports destined for this region.

In terms of imports, the EU-27 remained the top partner zone for both industrial and trade enterprises. Industrial enterprises imported 32.7% of their goods from the EU-27, while trade enterprises sourced 30.2% of their imports from the same region.

The report also sheds light on the concentration of trade among top enterprises. The top 500 enterprises accounted for 48.5% of total exports and 64.8% of total imports, demonstrating their significant influence on Türkiye's external trade.
