Israeli airstrike kills mother and four children in southern Gaza

The airstrike reportedly targeted a house belonging to the Abu Jazar family in the town of an-Nasser, northeast of Rafah. Local sources confirmed that Israeli fighter jets struck the residence, resulting in the deaths of the mother and her four children, with several others injured in the attack.

This latest airstrike comes amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza, which have drawn widespread international condemnation. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) had previously issued a legally binding ruling ordering Israel to halt its military offensive in Rafah, citing potential violations of the Genocide Convention. Despite this, Israel has continued its campaign, intensifying airstrikes across the region.

The conflict, which began on October 7, has claimed the lives of at least 41,467 Palestinians and left over 95,921 others injured, according to Palestinian health officials. In addition, around 10,000 people remain unaccounted for, believed to be trapped under the rubble of destroyed homes.

Palestinian and international humanitarian organizations have reported that the majority of the casualties are women and children. The ongoing Israeli offensive has also led to the displacement of nearly two million people across the Gaza Strip. Most of the displaced population has been forced into the southern city of Rafah, near the Egyptian border, in what is being described as the largest mass exodus of Palestinians since the 1948 Nakba.

International efforts to broker a ceasefire have so far been unsuccessful, as the humanitarian crisis in Gaza deepens with each passing day. (ILKHA)
