In a statement shared via social media, Altun criticized the global silence in the face of what he labeled as genocide, calling for immediate international action.

“For 350 days, the people of Gaza have endured one of the most violent assaults the world has witnessed,” Altun said, referring to the intensifying violence since October 7, 2023. He highlighted the destruction of cities, mosques, hospitals, and schools, and the systematic targeting of innocent civilians, including journalists, children, and babies.

Altun also accused Israel of violating international law through a campaign of repression, particularly targeting journalists. “Journalists who are trying to tell the world about what is going on in the region are being murdered,” he stated, criticizing efforts to suppress reliable information from the conflict zone.

Calling the situation "genocide," Altun emphasized that silence equates to complicity. "In the interest of justice, in consideration of humanity’s collective conscience, and for the sake of our future, we must raise our voices and act swiftly to stop this massacre," he urged.

Altun's statement is the latest in a series of condemnations from Turkish officials regarding the escalating violence in Gaza, reflecting Ankara's stance on the conflict and its call for international intervention. (ILKHA)
