The embargo, initially enacted in August 2014 in response to Western sanctions over the Russia-Ukraine conflict, will now remain in place from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026. This marks the first time the extension has been set for more than a single year.

The ban targets agricultural imports from the United States, the European Union, Australia, Norway, and Canada, and was later expanded to include other European nations, including Ukraine.

Putin has previously praised the embargo, claiming it has contributed to significant growth in Russia's agricultural sector by reducing dependency on foreign imports and boosting domestic production. (ILKHA)
