Yapıcıoğlu: The 1960 coup was a black stain on Turkish political history
HÜDA PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu has strongly condemned the 1960 military coup on the 63rd anniversary of the execution of former Prime Minister Adnan Menderes.
In his message on X, Yapıcıoğlu criticized the military coup of May 27, 1960, which led to Menderes' execution on September 17, 1961, along with his ministers Fatin Rushdu Zorlu and Hasan Polatkan.
"September 17 marks a painful event that has left a black stain on Turkey's recent political history," Yapıcıoğlu stated, emphasizing that the coup supporters continue to defend the 1982 constitution, which emerged from the September 12 coup, as part of their dominant "coup genes."
He further added: "I commemorate Prime Minister Adnan Menderes, who was cruelly murdered, along with his friends, with mercy on the 63rd anniversary of their execution. I strongly condemn the coup oppressors, their supporters, and the coup mentality."
The message reflects a broader critique of Türkiye's history of military coups and their lasting impact on the country’s political landscape. (ILKHA)
