Türkiye's house sales rise by 9.9% in August

Istanbul led with 19,467 house sales, followed by Ankara with 12,496 and İzmir with 7,044. The provinces with the fewest sales were Hakkari (53), Ardahan (93), and Bayburt (116).

Between January and August 2024, house sales increased by 1.1% compared to the same period in 2023, totaling 806,317 units.

Mortgage-based house sales fell 17.1% year-on-year in August, reaching 13,574 units, representing 10.1% of all sales. For the January-August period, mortgage sales dropped 49.8% to 76,485 units. Of these, 3,055 were first-time sales in August, with 18,017 mortgage-backed first-time sales recorded during the eight-month period.

Other types of house sales increased by 14.1% year-on-year in August, totaling 120,581 units, making up 89.9% of total house sales. In the first eight months of the year, non-mortgaged sales grew by 13.2%, reaching 729,832 units.

First-time house sales rose 18.7% in August compared to the previous year, reaching 41,913 units and accounting for 31.2% of total sales. From January to August, first-time house sales grew by 7.5%, totaling 256,021 units.

Second-hand house sales increased by 6.3% in August, with 92,242 units sold, representing 68.8% of total sales. However, for the January-August period, second-hand sales declined by 1.6%, reaching 550,296 units.

House sales to foreigners fell by 26.2% in August year-on-year, with 2,257 units sold, making up 1.7% of all house sales. İstanbul led foreign sales with 838 units, followed by Antalya (696) and Mersin (174).

For the January-August period, sales to foreigners dropped by 40%, totaling 15,068 units. Russian citizens made the most purchases in August, buying 381 houses, followed by Iranians (171) and Ukrainians (161). (ILKHA)
