This year, in Tanzania, the occasion was observed with a unique and vibrant display, as the Orphans Foundation organized the country’s first-ever open-air Mawlid al-Nabi event near Dar es Salaam, the former capital. This gathering was a beautiful blend of faith, culture, and community, reflecting the universal spirit of love and reverence for the Prophet Muhammad.

Mawlid al-Nabi is a globally celebrated event, honored by millions of Muslims in various countries such as Turkey, Yemen, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and the Kurdistan Region. For the first time, Tanzania joined this global tradition in a public, large-scale celebration. Hosted by the Orphans Foundation, the event took place on a football field in the Kinondoni district of Dar es Salaam. The platform was adorned with balloons featuring the Palestinian flag, symbolizing solidarity with the people of Gaza, while the crowd gathered in colorful attire, reflecting the festive mood of the day.

The celebration attracted a diverse crowd, including men, women, children, and the elderly, all coming together to pay homage to the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad. This outpouring of love and devotion demonstrated the powerful impact of the Prophet’s message on communities across the world, even in places far from his birthplace.

The event began with the recitation of the Qur’an, setting a spiritual tone for the day. Local religious leaders delivered speeches in Swahili, one of Tanzania’s official languages, underscoring the importance of adopting the Prophet’s ethics in daily life. The Orphans Foundation’s representative, Abdulwahap Kaplan, also addressed the attendees, speaking about the exemplary character of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He reminded the audience of the Prophet’s humility, compassion, and dedication to justice, qualities that should inspire Muslims to lead lives of integrity and service.

The program included the recitation of Kurdish hymns, which added a unique cultural dimension to the event. This celebration of diversity within the Muslim world brought joy to many, especially the children, who were particularly moved by the hymns praising the Prophet.

One of the most poignant aspects of the celebration was its strong sense of community. Despite Tanzania being a country far from the historical events of the Prophet’s life, the love for him was palpable among the attendees. This bond was further deepened by the shared awareness of global struggles, particularly the suffering of the Palestinian people. The Palestinian flags displayed at the event were a reminder of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the crowd’s empathy reflected their connection to the broader Muslim world.

As the event drew to a close, the attendees were treated to a special meal in honor of Mawlid al-Nabi. Meals were prepared by the Orphans Foundation with sponsorship from generous philanthropists, and hundreds of people were served. This act of communal sharing, an integral part of Islamic tradition, reflected the Prophet’s own teachings about the importance of charity, kindness, and caring for one’s community.

This Mawlid al-Nabi celebration in Tanzania was a testament to the enduring legacy of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the universal relevance of his message. It also marked the beginning of what may become an annual tradition in Tanzania, bringing together diverse communities in a shared celebration of faith, love, and unity. By hosting such events, the Orphans Foundation has not only enriched the spiritual lives of the participants but also fostered a sense of solidarity with Muslims around the world.

As the Qur’an was recited, hymns were sung, and meals were shared, the message of Mawlid al-Nabi resonated clearly: the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) continue to inspire and guide, uniting hearts across nations and generations. (ILKHA)
