Jordanian Prime Minister Bisher al-Khasawneh resigns following parliamentary elections

This development follows the parliamentary elections held on September 10, in which the opposition Islamic Action Front made significant gains.

The resignation is a constitutional step that facilitates the formation of a new government in alignment with the newly elected parliament. King Abdullah II now has the authority to appoint a new prime minister or reappoint Khasawneh to lead the next administration.

Bisher al-Khasawneh, who has been the longest-serving prime minister under King Abdullah II, assumed office in October 2020, succeeding Omar Al-Razzaz. His departure marks a transition in the executive branch as Jordan adapts to the results of the recent elections. (ILKHA)
