In Myanmar, the floods have been particularly devastating, with 74 confirmed deaths and 89 people missing. The disaster has displaced over 235,000 people and destroyed more than 65,000 houses and five dams. The ongoing conflict in the country has further complicated relief efforts.

Thailand is also experiencing heavy rainfall, with the weather office warning of more flooding in provinces along the Mekong River.

The UN's Office for the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) are assessing the situation in Myanmar and considering the junta's request for foreign aid.

Climate change is exacerbating the impact of these extreme weather events, with studies showing that typhoons are becoming more intense and staying longer over land. (ILKHA)
