In a statement published on its official website, South Africa declared "We will submit our memorandum to the International Court of Justice next month," adding that the country will present facts and evidence to support its claim that Israel is responsible for genocide in Palestine. The government emphasized that the case will continue until the court delivers its final ruling.

South Africa also expressed hope that Israel would comply with the interim orders already issued by the ICJ.

Several nations have reportedly joined South Africa in its legal pursuit, including Nicaragua, Palestine, Türkiye, Spain, Mexico, Libya, and Colombia.

At the end of December 2023, South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel at the ICJ, accusing the country of violating the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

This move comes in response to the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, which started on October 7, 2023. Israel’s aggression has resulted in approximately 136,000 casualties, with the majority of the victims being children and women, and over 10,000 individuals still reported as missing. (ILKHA)
