Kursk NPP to remain open despite regional challenges
The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) will continue operations despite the ongoing crisis in the region, according to Alexey Likhachev, CEO of Russia’s Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation.
Likhachev, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum, assured reporters that the plant's remaining functioning unit is crucial for energy supply to the region and will only be shut down as a last resort if the situation deteriorates.
Despite the challenges, Rosatom has implemented robust security measures to protect the NPP from potential attacks. The plant is considered a major node in Russia's unified energy system and is undergoing a modernization process with the construction of Kursk NPP-2.
The Eastern Economic Forum, held in Vladivostok, is a prominent international conference focused on promoting economic development in Russia's Far East region. (ILKHA)
