Serbia vows no NATO membership, defends ties with Russia

Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin emphasized this position during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) on September 4.

"Under the leadership of President Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia will never become a NATO member, will not introduce sanctions against Russia, and will not allow its territory to be used for anti-Russian operations," Vulin declared. He further criticized efforts to isolate Russia, calling them futile, and affirmed Serbia’s respect and appreciation for Russia.

This stance aligns with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's recent reaffirmation of the country’s military neutrality during talks with NATO Assistant Secretary General Boris Ruge in late August. Vucic highlighted that Serbia is strengthening its armed forces to ensure its defense capabilities independently, given its refusal to join NATO.

Serbia's position reflects its ongoing commitment to maintaining a balanced approach in international relations, particularly in the context of the ongoing geopolitical tensions involving Russia. (ILKHA)
