He pointed out that while children in other regions are returning to UNRWA schools, those in Gaza are still unable to attend.

Lazzarini highlighted that over 600,000 children in Gaza are severely traumatized and living in the rubble, with many unable to access education. “Half of them used to be in UNRWA schools,” he wrote.

He warned that prolonged school closures could lead to a lost generation.

Stressing that a large number of UN schools in Gaza are currently unfit for educational purposes and are instead housing hundreds of thousands of displaced families, Lazzarini stated, “In Gaza, more than 70% of our schools are destroyed or damaged.”

He called for a ceasefire, saying it would provide much-needed relief for civilians, facilitate the release of hostages, and allow for the delivery of vital supplies, including educational materials. (ILKHA)
