Senegal’s Prime Minister urges Islamic nations to boycott and isolate Israel
During a pro-Palestinian rally in Dakar, Senegal’s capital, Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko called on Islamic countries to boycott Israel and increase efforts to politically isolate it.
This rally marked the first time since the Israeli assaults on Gaza resumed on October 7, 2023, that a high-ranking Senegalese official participated in such an event in Dakar.
Protesters at the rally chanted slogans such as “Boycott Israel,” “Free Gaza,” “Netanyahu is a criminal,” “The West is complicit,” and “The UN is complicit.” In his speech, Prime Minister Sonko criticized Israeli leaders, accusing them of choosing to “crush thousands of lives underfoot” to avoid facing justice.
He emphasized the need for Islamic countries to show greater solidarity in support of Palestine, stating, “We must unite all those who oppose this injustice and work towards a political solution that effectively isolates Israel.” Sonko also called for an end to what he described as “inhumane actions endorsed by certain Western countries,” adding that mere condemnation is insufficient and that Senegal is prepared to take more definitive actions.
Sonko advocated for implementing economic, political, and diplomatic sanctions against Israel, urging both his citizens and the global community to join this campaign. He stressed that calls for restraint are no longer adequate, and more must be done to support the Palestinian people. (ILKHA)
