Doctors Without Borders blasts Israel for blocking medical access in Jenin
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, has expressed deep concern over the "scale and intensity" of Israel's recent four-day military incursion in Jenin.
The international medical organization issued a statement on X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the severe obstacles Israeli forces are creating for accessing health facilities and delivering critical care.
MSF reported that Israeli forces have been obstructing access to medical facilities, including blocking and even targeting ambulances, which has delayed access to care for those in need. The situation has become particularly dire at the MSF-supported Khalil Suleiman Hospital, which has been surrounded by Israeli forces since the beginning of the incursion.
The organization noted that electricity and water supplies to the hospital have been compromised, forcing the medical team to halt essential dialysis operations, a critical service for patients with kidney failure.
In Tulkarm, following the withdrawal of Israeli forces, MSF teams observed widespread destruction in the camps and received disturbing reports from an MSF-trained volunteer who was allegedly beaten and interrogated by Israeli authorities.
MSF emphasized that Israel, as the occupying power in the West Bank, has an obligation under international law to ensure access to medical care. The organization called for hospitals, ambulances, and the medical humanitarian mission to be respected and protected from harm. (ILKHA)
