Iraqi resistance targets power station in Haifa with drone strike
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has claimed responsibility for a drone strike targeting the Alon Tavor power station in Haifa.
The attack, which was carried out on Thursday morning, was described as a response to the ongoing Israeli genocidal aggression in Gaza.
On the morning of August 29, 2024, the Islamic Resistance in Iraq announced that it had launched a drone strike against the Alon Tavor industrial power station in Haifa, located in the northern part of the occupied Palestinian territories.
In a statement, the group declared that the attack was part of its ongoing efforts to resist occupation and support the people of Gaza.
The statement further explained that the strike was in retaliation for the crimes committed by the "usurping Zionist regime" against Palestinian civilians, including children, women, and the elderly. The group emphasized its commitment to continuing its resistance in light of the current situation in Gaza.
The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region, following an escalation of Israeli military operations in Gaza that began on October 7, 2023. Supported by the United States and the United Kingdom, Israeli forces have carried out extensive bombing campaigns targeting hospitals, schools, and civilian homes, leading to widespread destruction and humanitarian crises.
The ongoing assault on Gaza has resulted in the deaths of 40,534 Palestinians, injuries to 93,778 others, and the displacement of 90% of the population. The situation has drawn international condemnation, with calls for a cease-fire and immediate humanitarian aid access.
The drone strike on the Haifa power station highlights the broader regional implications of the Israeli aggression in Gaza, as resistance groups across the Middle East increasingly mobilize in response to the aggression. (ILKHA)
