In a statement released on its X account, UNRWA confirmed that 212 of its colleagues have been killed since the conflict in Gaza escalated on October 7, 2023. Despite these devastating losses, the agency remains committed to delivering humanitarian assistance wherever possible, even in the most difficult circumstances.

UNRWA emphasized that the humanitarian situation in Gaza has become one of the most challenging operations currently facing the United Nations. By the end of July, the agency had documented 464 incidents involving its premises and the people within them across the Gaza Strip since the Israeli genocide began.

As the largest humanitarian organization in Gaza, UNRWA plays a critical role in providing aid to the besieged Palestinian population. Established more than 70 years ago by the UN General Assembly, the agency was created to assist Palestinians forcibly displaced from their land.

The Israeli genocidal aggresssion has resulted in nearly 40,500 Palestinian deaths, the majority of whom are women and children, along with over 93,500 injuries, according to local health authorities. The ongoing blockade has caused severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, further exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Israel's actions have drawn international condemnation, with accusations of genocide being brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ). The ICJ has ordered a halt to military operations in the southern city of Rafah, where over one million Palestinians had sought refuge before the area was invaded on May 6. Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, the conflict continues, leaving much of Gaza in ruins. (ILKHA)
